Melanoma Help

I recently discovered a skin cancer spot on my leg. Is there a natural way to fight this?
Gary, UT

Natural Help for Melanoma or Skin Cancer
Melanoma is considered the most serious type of skin cancer. It begins in skin cells called melanocytes.

Melanocytes are the cells that make melanin, which gives skin its pigment or color. Melanin is responsible for skin or hair color. Melanin also protects the deeper layers of the skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays.

When people spend time in the sunlight, the melanocytes make more melanin and cause the skin to tan. This also happens when skin is exposed to other forms of ultraviolet light (such as in a tanning booth). If the skin receives too much ultraviolet light, the melanocytes may begin to grow abnormally and become cancerous. This condition is called melanoma.

Melanoma can be cured if it is diagnosed and treated early. If melanoma is not removed in its early stages, cancer cells may grow downward from the skin surface and invade healthy tissue. If it spreads to other parts of the body it can be difficult to control.

Symptoms:
The primary symptom of any skin cancer is usually a mole, sore, lump, or growth on the skin. Often the first sign of melanoma is a change in the size, shape, color or feel of a mole. Most melanomas have a black or black-blue area. Melanoma may also appear as a new mole. It may be black, abnormal or ugly. Any change in appearance of a pigmented skin lesion over time is a warning sign. Also, watch for any bleeding from a skin growth.

The "ABCD" test can help you remember what to watch for:
· Asymmetry - One half of the abnormal area is different from the other half.
· Border - The edges of the lesion are ragged, blurred or irregular.
· Color - The color in uneven and may include shades of black, brown and tan.
· Diameter - There is a change in size, usually an increase. It is usually (but not always) larger than 6 mm in diameter -- about the size of a pencil eraser.

The key to treating melanoma is recognizing symptoms early. You might not notice a small spot of concern if you don't look carefully, so perform thorough self-examinations monthly, and schedule a formal skin exam with a dermatologist yearly.

Natural Help:
Avoid the Sun during its toxic times, but enjoy Helio-therapy safely.
· Helio-therapy can be beneficial, providing Vitamin-D and detoxing of the skin, but it can bring cancer to the skins surface, and other skin problems, if used incorrectly.
· Avoid the sun at midday, between the period 11:00 to 1:00, when it can be toxic to the user.
· Wear clothing, that covers the skin, during toxic times, and use an Essential Oil or Herbal sunscreen.
· Fair skinned people should work them selves up to sun use, starting at one minute the first time and adding a minute each day. Everyone else can start at 2 minutes, adding 4 minutes to each day.
· Keep the skin hydrated at all times, from with in, drinking as much as ½ your body's weight in ounces. (If you weigh 150 pounds, you should drink 75 ounces of water each day) Add 1-2 drops Lemon or Peppermint essential oil to help hydrate the body even faster.

Use Foods and herbs to protect the skin.
Burdock Root, taken internally, will help keep the skin from drying out. It protects the lymphatic and oil glands of the body.

Eat Colorful foods - Some of the most colorful plants get their hue from lycopene, a naturally occurring pigment--or type of carotenoid--found in red and pink fruits.
  • Tomatoes – Cooking them releases the lycopenes in them. tomato juice and paste, soup, sauce, and ketchup--all of which contain the highest concentrations of lycopene your body can use

  • Lycopene is also in watermelon, guava, and pink grapefruit. Other carotenoids are easy to find: Stick to brightly colored fruits and veggies such as blueberries, strawberries, and red, yellow, and orange peppers.

  • Eating Squash also helps prevent Sunburns.

Omega-3's- omega-3s soothe inflammation. Plus cells made with monounsaturated fats (such as omega-3s) are better able to defend themselves against free radicals than are cells made with saturated fat.
  • Eating at least two servings (one portion is the size of a deck of cards) of omega-3-rich fish (herring, mackerel, trout, sardines, or salmon) a week.. Studies suggest that fish oil supplements offer the same benefits

Increase antioxidant Foods- Antioxidants can mop up free radicals and significantly reduce your risk of sunburn, precancerous skin growths, and squamous cell carcinoma. Antioxidants also help prevent and repair oxidative stress, a process that damages cells within the body and has been linked to the development of cancer.
  • The rooibos plant (Aspalathus linearis) is a South African flowering leguminous shrub used to make a mild-tasting tea that has no caffeine, very little tannin, and significant amounts of polyphenol antioxidants.

  • Garlic is packed with antioxidant compounds to help fight cancer.

  • Red Kidney beans contain disease-fighting antioxidants as well.

Broccoli sprouts house a potent skin cancer weapon--sulforaphane. The anticancer compound increases the body's natural production of the enzymes that protect skin from the sun

Vitamins C and E have the ability to both prevent and repair cellular damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. Eating foods rich in these nutrients has actually been shown to help prevent or lessen the extent of a sunburn. These vitamins are much more effective together than either is by itself, but there aren't many foods that are high in both nutrients.
  • Foods high in vitamin C include red and green bell peppers, guava, kale, parsley, collard greens, turnips, and broccoli.

  • Vitamin E is found in wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, safflower and sunflower oils, almonds, and avocados.

Begin a Liver Cleanse
  • Skin Cancer comes from an overloaded Liver. Detoxification of the Liver is important.

Essential Oil Help
Essential Oil Sunscreen:
4 Drops Geranium
4 drops Lavender
1 tsp. Carrier Oil (Grapeseed, Olive, etc.)

Frankincense & Cancer
Studies show that Frankincense is a strong immune-stimulant with the ability to repair DNA. The Boswellia acids, with in Frankincense are said to have anti-carcinogenic and anti-tumor activities. Using Frankincense could help “normalize” cancer cells. Learn more about Frankincense and Cancer, here.

Option 1
Have the melanoma spot surgically removed. Afterward, apply Frankincense over the area, each day to assure that all cancer is normalized or gone. Continue to focus on “rebuilding” the body through the proper diet and taking better care of the skin.

Option 2
Apply the following oils daily, directly on the melanoma for a minimum of 30 days. Apply 1-2 drops of the first oil, let it absorb, then 1-2 drops of the second oil and let it absorb, etc.
1. Frankincense
2. Myrrh
3. Lavender
4. Cypress
5. Rosemary

Help for Canker Sores

Help, I get Canker Sores all of the time, is there a natural way to stop them?
Kacie, MI.

Natural Help for Canker Sores
Canker sores, also known as aphthous ulcers, are small, shallow lesions that develop on the soft tissues in your mouth and at the base of your gums. They usually pop up alone, but sometimes they show up in small clusters.

Your mouth might tingle or burn before the actual sore appears. Soon, a small red bump rises. Then after a day or so it bursts, leaving an open, shallow white or yellowish wound with a red border. The sores are often painful, making eating and drinking very difficult, and can be up to an inch across, although most of them are much smaller. Occasionally, someone who gets canker sores may also develop a fever and feel sluggish and uncomfortable.

Unlike cold sores, canker sores don't occur on the surface of your lips and aren't contagious. Canker sores are always found inside the mouth, and don not spread by sharing food or kissing someone. Most canker sores go away on their own in a week or two.

Causes:
No one is certain what causes canker sores. They often first appear between the ages of 10 and 20, although they can occur at any time in a person's life.
  • Hereditary - One thing that doctors have noticed is that although the sores are not contagious, they can run in families. That means if your parents or siblings get canker sores, the genes you share with them make it more likely that you'll develop the sores, too.
  • Stress - There may be a connection between canker sores and stress. If the sores show up around exam time or some other big event in your life, it may be a sign of how much stress you're under.
  • Gender - About twice as many women as men get them. Doctors think that may be due to the difference in male and female hormones, especially because women often get them during certain times in their menstrual cycle.
  • SLS - Some research suggests that using products containing sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), a foaming agent found in most toothpastes and mouthwashes, can be associated with canker sores.
  • Allergies - Some foods can cause canker sore breakouts after eating them.
  • Dietary deficiencies - Not getting enough iron or vitamin B12, may also contribute to some cases of canker sores.

Natural Help
Homemade mouthwashes can ease Canker Sore pain.
· Try rinsing your mouth four times a day with a mixture of two ounces of hydrogen peroxide and two ounces of water or a combination of four ounces of water mixed with 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) of salt and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Swish the mixture in your mouth for about a minute and then spit it out — do not swallow it!
· Dabbing a mixture of equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide directly on the sore, followed by a bit of milk of magnesia, may reduce discomfort and speed healing.

Avoid certain foods.
·  You'll want to watch what you eat while you have a canker sore. Spicy foods and acidic foods such as lemons or tomatoes can be extremely painful on these open wounds. So can anything sharp, such as nuts or potato chips, which can poke or rub the sore. Be careful when you brush your teeth, too. It's important to keep your mouth clean, but brushing the sore itself with a toothbrush will make it worse.

· In prevention, avoid food that you might be allergic to. If you breakout in canker sores after eating a particular food. Eliminate the suspected food item for a short period of time and later reintroduce it to test the reaction to confirm an allergy.
*These foods have been known to cause allergy causing canker sores: Dairy, nuts, peanut butter, cinnamon, kiwis, strawberries, tomatoes, citrus fruits, eggs, pork, honey, brewer's yeast, wheat products and even chocolate.

A Digestive cleanse and Liver Cleanse will go a long way in clearing up chronic canker sores.

Alkalize the body:
~Eat Alkalizing foods.
~Green Smoothies and raw food will be one of your most powerful tools.

Green Smoothie Recipe:
In a Vita-Mix (or your blender) mix:
  • Meat of one pealed, pitted, fresh Mango
  • 4-6 kiwi (While kiwifruit is a high-acid food, it is one of the top most alkaline-forming fruit in the body.)
  • 1/2 apple
  • Whirl with 4-5 cups water for 30-40 seconds
  • Then add one leaf at a time of 1-2 bunches of Kale (whichever variety you desire)
  • Add ice and cold water, as the blender whirls, until blender is full.
  • Sip on this all day!

You can switch the fruit out with other high alkaline forming foods, if you have an allergy to any of the above fruits. The concept with green smoothies is to use whatever fresh produce is "calling your name" (choose low glycemic index fruits. Choose strawberries, kiwi, blueberries, apples, pears, cherries, plums, etc.) Thus it will alkalize your body!

Check out a book by Victoria Boutenko called "Green for Life" . You can find it at www.rawfamily.com for green smoothie recipe ideas.

Essential Oil Liver Cleanse:
1 drop Lemon EO
1 drop Peppermint EO

Take first in the morning, everyday.
Follow with water.

Essential Oil Help
For immediate relief and to help get rid of canker sores, take 2-3 drops Tea Tree or Helichrysum and put directly on the sore.

Can also saturate a piece of gauze with a mixture of  1 drop Oregano and 1 Tbl. carrier oil (grape seed, olive, etc) and hold it on the canker sore for a few minutes several times a day. Can also, take in capsule 2x a day.

Dill can help calm and heal mouth ulcers and canker sores. Take in capsules or apply to sore, or make a tea using 2 drops Dill, 1 teaspoon sweetener, and 1 cup warm water. Drink 2x daily.

MRSA Help

I have had an Infection on my leg for two months. Antibiotics do not help and now my doctor is saying it is MRSA and that I need more antibiotics. Is there a more natural way to treat staph?
Melissa, IL.

Natural help for MRSA

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria - often called "staph." It's tougher to treat than most strains of staphylococcus aureus -- or staph -- because it's resistant to some commonly used antibiotics. Decades ago, a strain of staph emerged in hospitals that was resistant to the broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat it. Dubbed methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), it was one of the first germs to outwit all but the most powerful drugs. MRSA infection can be fatal.

Staph bacteria are normally found on the skin or in the nose of about one-third of the population. If you have staph on your skin or in your nose but aren't sick, you are said to be "colonized" but not infected with MRSA. Healthy people can be colonized with MRSA and have no ill effects, however, they can pass the germ to others.

Staph bacteria are generally harmless unless they enter the body through a cut or other wound, and even then they often cause only minor skin problems in healthy people. But in older adults and people who are ill or have weakened immune systems, ordinary staph infections can cause serious illness called methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA. Though most MRSA infections aren't serious, some can be life-threatening. Many public health experts are alarmed by the spread of tough strains of MRSA. Less often, staph can cause serious problems like infected wounds or pneumonia.

Staph can usually be treated with antibiotics. But over the decades, some strains of staph -- like MRSA -- have become resistant to antibiotics that once destroyed it. MRSA was first discovered in 1961. It's now resistant to methicillin, amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin, and many other antibiotics. Because it's hard to treat, MRSA is sometimes called a "super bug”.

MRSA is spread by contact. So you could get MRSA by touching another person who has it on the skin. Or you could get it by touching objects that have the bacteria on them. MRSA is carried, or "colonized," by about 1% of the population, although most of them aren't infected.

MRSA infections are common among people who have weak immune systems and are in hospitals, nursing homes, and other heath care centers. Infections can appear around surgical wounds or invasive devices, like catheters or implanted feeding tubes. Rates of infection in hospitals, especially intensive care units, are rising throughout the world. In U.S. hospitals, MRSA causes more than 60% of staph infections.

Signs and Symptoms
The symptoms of MRSA depend on where you're infected. Most often, it causes mild infections on the skin, causing sores or boils, or resembling spider bites. These can quickly turn into deep, painful abscesses that require surgical draining. Sometimes the bacteria remain confined to the skin. But they can also burrow deep into the body, causing potentially life- threatening infections in bones, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, urinary tract, heart valves and lungs.

Preventatives
Stop unnecessary use of antibiotics.
· Like other superbugs, MRSA is the result of decades of excessive and unnecessary antibiotic use. For years, antibiotics have been prescribed for colds, flu and other viral infections that don't respond to these drugs, as well as for simple bacterial infections that normally clear on their own.
· Prescription drugs aren't the only source of antibiotics. In the United States, antibiotics can be found in beef cattle, pigs and chickens. The same antibiotics then find their way into municipal water systems when the runoff from feedlots contaminates streams and groundwater. Routine feeding of antibiotics to animals is banned in the European Union and many other industrialized countries. Antibiotics given in the proper doses to animals who are sick don't appear to produce resistant bacteria.
Practice good hygiene.
· In or out of the hospital, careful hand washing remains your best defense against germs. Scrub hands briskly for at least 15 seconds, then dry them with a disposable towel and use another towel to turn off the faucet. Carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer containing at least 62 percent alcohol for times when you don't have access to soap and water.
· Showering immediately after participating in exercise, especially after using exercise equipment.
Avoid sharing personal items.
· Do not share towels, razors, sheets, clothing, or athletic equipment that come into contact with your bare skin; and using a barrier (e.g., clothing or a towel) between your skin and shared equipment such as weight-training benches. MRSA spreads on contaminated objects as well as through direct contact.
Keep wounds covered.
· Keep cuts and abrasions clean and covered with sterile, dry bandages until they heal. The pus from infected sores often contains MRSA, and keeping wounds covered will help keep the bacteria from spreading.
Sanitize linens.
· If you have a cut or sore, wash towels and bed linens in hot water with added bleach and dry them in a hot dryer. Wash gym and athletic clothes after each wearing.
Get tested
· If you have a skin infection that requires treatment, ask your doctor if you should be tested for MRSA. Many doctors prescribe drugs that aren't effective against antibiotic-resistant staph, which delays treatment and creates more resistant germs.

Olive leaf Extract
· Olive leaf Extract is a natural anti-biotic that has been used in hospitals in Hungary to overcome MRSA with good success rates. Olive leaf extract has been used as a natural antibiotic for thousands of years; when the active components were isolated in 1969, an upsurge of research has resulted in dramatic discoveries. Research at the Upjohn Company, published by the American Society for Microbiology, found that the active components in Olive Leaf - elenol acid and calcium elenolate, inhibited the growth of every virus, bacteria, fungi and protozoa they were tested against.

Take a Probiotic
Choose a Probiotic that has both L's and B strains and will support the Intestinal Flora.

Essential Oil Help
Oregano is the oil of choice for acute MRSA.
· Add 3 drops Oregano oil to a capsule and fill with carrier oil.
· Take 2x daily, morning and night.
· Can also use directly on infection, by mixing 1-2 drops Oregano in 1-2 Tbl. Olive oil.
· Remember to use Oregano 7-10 days on and then take a few days off, as the high Carvacol content in oregano can cause liver toxicity build up.
· We suggest to take a liver cleanse while using Oregano.
§ 1 drop Lemon
§ 1 drop Peppermint
§ 1 tsp. Fresh Lemon juice.
§ Mix together and take upon rising each morning.

Acute MRSA Recipe #2:
Add to Capsules the following Essential Oils and then fill with carrier oil:
· 2 drops Oregano
· 2 drops Thyme
· 2 drops Rosemary
Take with each meal for 3-5 days or until infection clears.
Can also use the mixture directly on infection. Add 3 Tbl. Olive oil to essential Oil mixture before applying.

For minor MRSA in adults and for use with children.
· Mix together 25 drops Lavender
· 20 drops Tea Tree
· 20 drops Rosemary
· 10 drops Sandalwood
· Apply to affected area (if to hot add carrier oil).
· Put in shampoo or lotion (without fragrance)
· Add 10 drops of the mixture in ½ cup Epsom salts in warm water to wash with.
· Diffuse.

The blend per la Immunity can be very affective:
· Lick trick with Immunity blend 3 times a day.
· Add 1-2 drops to Applesauce or poke in Apples.
· Brush teeth with it. (Careful to keep off outside of mouth, as it is a hot blend)

To help reduce MRSA bacteria, while in the hospital or at home:
· Add 10 drops Lemon oil to 16oz water in a Spray bottle and mist the air and surfaces.
· Use Bacteria buster recipe:
10 drops Lemon
8 drops Eucalyptus
5 drops Rosemary
3 drops Lemongrass

Add all to water, shake and spray. Use to wipe down counters, cabinets, sinks, tubs, toilets, doorknobs, fixtures, etc.. to protect from bacteria spreading.
